NEW DELHI: Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, under the leadership of its President, Maulana Arshad Madani, has initiated a campaign against the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024.
As part of this effort, JUH members are actively engaging with opposition party leaders and members of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to highlight the Bill’s potentially harmful implications for Muslim Waqf properties.
A statement issued by the JUh on Monday said these discussions were being conducted at both national and state levels. In Maharashtra, a Jamiat Ulema delegation recently met with JPC members Mhatre Balya Mama and Arvind Sawant to express their concerns.
Furthermore, a joint delegation from the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind is set to meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on August 20 to discuss the issue.
Maulana Arshad Madani has strongly criticized the Bill, labeling it a deliberate attempt to undermine the Waqf properties of Muslims. He argues that the Bill’s true intention is not to safeguard these properties but to weaken their protection. According to Maulana Madani, if passed, the Bill would significantly erode Muslims’ rights to Waqf properties and constitute an infringement on their religious freedoms.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind has unequivocally stated that it will oppose any amendments to the Waqf Act that threaten to alter or weaken the legal status or nature of Waqf properties.
